Jason Connell discusses the trailer for Air, the new Nike & Michael Jordan biopic movie, and much more.

Whoa, just curious. Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk movies. And I'm Jason Connell, on the show. Today I'm talking about air 2023 movie. And this is the trailer which I just watched. Now, I gotta tell you, I am so excited about this movie. What's it about? You might ask? Well, I'll tell you. The movie follows the history of the shoe salesman, Sonny Vaccaro, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of basketball. Michael Jordan. Yes, Air Jordan, hence the name. MJ, very close and dear to my heart as well as countless others across the country in the world. Chicago Bulls legend he led his team to two three Pete's so that's six titles. Phil Jackson, the legendary coach Scottie Pippen his second in command, you know, the two three Pete's were kind of broken up or built with different players for the most part because there was a gap in between when Jordan retired from basketball to play baseball, after the horrific and sad and tragic death of his father murder of his father, I should say. But we all got to relive a lot of this Chicago Bulls folklore when the last dance came out during the pandemic. Netflix brought that to us and it was like stepping back into the 90s. Well, this movie does that perfectly. And let me just show you the poster here because it's so cool. There it is air I should have swept that sooner. But I'm going to play the trailer. Take that in and then we'll go into a little bit more things as we prime this movie, which is coming out soon, which I cannot wait to see. So hold tight. 1984 has been a tough year sales are down or growth is down, sonny.

I brought you in here to grow the basketball business. People don't know what the hell a Nike is. What's a converse NBA All Star shoe. There's nothing cool about making you would have to have a pretty compelling pitch. I can tell them the one thing the other companies can't compete with. Our basketball division is terrible. I do not love it. This is where you come up with a brilliant idea that no one else can see. Let's hear it I got it. I found them. Who's that Jesus can't afford it. I'm willing to bet my career on one guy. My name is Sonny Vaccaro. I'm with Nike. Do you typically make it a habit of showing up at people's front doors on announced? I don't like to take no for an answer. Here we go. You asked me what I do here. This is what I do find you players and I feel at this time that arcades risky when you were selling sneakers out of the back of your Plymouth. That was risky. Don't change that now for a rookie. Yes. Who's never set foot on an NBA court? That's the literal definition of rookie. Yeah. What's the plan? We build a shoe around just I need the greatest basketball shoe that's ever been made to play. Michael Jordan your mouth attention tonight I believe in your son. I believe he's the future. And his story is going to make us want to fly with the shoe is just a ship until my son steps into get a name for Air Jordan. I don't know. Seriously, maybe it'll grow on me.

How great. Does that look? Unbelievable. And of course that song. Oh my gosh, Sister Christian by night Ranger. It's also used brilliantly in Boogie Nights with the scene with Alfred Molina and the drugs and the fireworks and watch that movie again and check that scene up. But the song's amazing, wonderful trailer. Like I'm ready to go suit up and play some hoops. I do have a basketball goal here. But I had some Michael Jordan's Air Jordans I should say. They were my favorite. They were a later model. I must have got him in the early 90s. And oh my gosh, I wore them many seasons. Incredible. But it looks great. So let's get into who put this movie together. Well, you saw I'm Ben athletic director and he's in the movie playing Phil Knight, founder of Nike. Of course, Phil Knight, with his running coach at University of Oregon, built Nike started is this little company us made company. That was for runners I had early Nikes in the early 80s, which, you know, there wasn't much to them. They were more like Chuck Taylors converses. But anyway, he built up this behemoth of a company. And, but what took it to that point was Michael Jordan steel, which is incredible. But as far as Ben Affleck goes, I personally really appreciate him as a director even more than an actor. He directed Argo, which one best picture. He was also in Argo. So sometimes when he directs and he's in it, it's pretty good. The town fantastic. He was also in it Gone Baby Gone. His brother, Casey Affleck was an also a fantastic movie. And of course, one of the main guys in this movie, Matt Damon plays Sonny Vaccaro. He was a marketing executive at Nike. I don't even know the whole story. So I'm dying to see this movie, but he is the one that got Michael Jordan designed a I believe it was a $15,000,000.05 year contract in 1984. Huge money back then. Now. It's like, not even the starting point. But Michael Jordan paved the way for so many other athletes to come. And Matt Damon, I'll just rattle off some titles because we all know him. He's been around forever, but he does make great choices. The Martian The Departed The Bourne Identity, The Talented Mr. Ripley Rounders Saving Private Ryan Goodwill Hunting, which he and Aflac wrote and starred in all of those fantastic movies and he's in even more Jason Bateman. You saw him in the trailer. He plays Rob Strawser and he's the Director of Marketing at Nike so I'm sure him and Damon are battling about what are you crazy like you saw some of their but we can't sign this nobody and Bateman has been around back to my youth. He was in TV shows and then he was in most recently Ozark an incredible show on Netflix, which is over and I highly recommend people delving into that. Arrested Development Horrible Bosses up in the air Juno, countless more this guy's always working. Then we see Viola Davis, incredible. She's playing Delores Jordan, Michael Jordan's mother, four time Oscar nominated actress, and she won four fences. And she was also in the woman King to help doubt and so many more. Chris Messina plays David Falk. Now, Chris Messina, you recognize for sure he's in lots of movies. I think he's in Argo as well. But David Falk was Michael Jordan's agent. Fantastic. He was an agent to a lot of basketball players. I remember seeing him around a lot during those times in the NBA. So I really want to see he's like screaming at Damon, you went to his house, so I really cannot wait to see this thing on the big screen. And then who plays Michael Jordan? That was when I first questions well, a relatively unknown actor to us. I mean, I'm sure he's been in things but not that many movies. Damien Delano young so good luck to you, sir. But it's not really hanging on MJ. It's everything else around Michael Jordan. So I don't know if they'll incorporate like archive footage, which I hope they do rather than trying to recreate a bunch of things that would make more sense to me. But just an incredible concept idea and I wonder if it really was spawned from the success of the last dance I mean, I don't know if we ever get any of the big dogs on this show Aflac Damon Bateman anybody I would love to ask them that. But just something I wanted to prime the trailer boot. The trailer blew me away. Literally, I can't even speak. And of course, anytime you bring in SR, Christian, you can't really overwhelm something with it. It's just the perfect song to really bring out the energy and elected me I was just rocking out and the reason I couldn't speak during the trailer is because I have to feed things through a single track for some reason using this particular program. So I was on mute, but enjoying it nonetheless. And I hope you all did too. I hope you see this movie. If you do let me know let me know what you think.
