Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk movies. And I'm Jason Connell on the show. Today I'm joined by a special guest, Sal Rodriguez.

Sal Rodriguez:

Hello, everybody.

Jason Connell:

Hello, Sal. This is really exciting, sir. Because now matching the other shows on just curious media under the banner. Yeah, let's talk movies is going to YouTube Live. Yeah.

Sal Rodriguez:

Another reason for me to look into undereye makeup. You know, because this video is a whole new thing. Now I got to think about what shirt I'm wearing. I know, do I have shine on my forehead? I mean, you know, you got to look at all these things.

Jason Connell:

It's a lot. Now some people might wonder, hey, you haven't had an episode in a while. Now you're going to YouTube Live. And so I've got some explaining to do. Yeah, yeah. And another thing is, yes, this is a show that I usually just do. And I bring on different guests. But I had you on because you're coming up on your fifth installment out of 10 from season one. So you're kind of like super friend of the show here. Like the guest hosts that I go to. And I wanted you to be on this special episode, which is movies strike YouTube live just a little catching the audience up, but go ahead. Well, I

Sal Rodriguez:

was gonna say thank you. Thank you for having me for this official announcement, right?

Jason Connell:

Yes, it's super exciting. So to take everyone back, just a beat. When I started, let's talk movies. We were in the midst of a pandemic. And we still are in a pandemic, but it's different places. Now. I launched the show on May 28. To be exact 2020. Oh, it's pretty good. May 2020 20. And was just on a tear because we were on a hiatus from let's talk Cobra Kai. Yes. Because back then we were just doing the show per episode. So season one, we did 10 C's until we did 10. So we're sitting at 20. And then the show was on a hiatus as well. And so we were just like, oh, man, I need to be creative. I need to do something. I'm gonna launch a new show. And that became let's talk movie so I could speak with other people. And we could talk about these movies, and I was doing remote recordings. And that's all well and good. We went through an American Werewolf in London. Once you were on Wall Street to live and die in LA the fly again, Iran Fast Times at Ridgemont High risky business, the Terminator with you, diehard American Gigolo you came on. And we have one upcoming, which I'll hold for a second, which will be 10. And that will round out the first 10, which are 10 different movies and yours from the 80s. So you won't see any two movies from any of those years. It made me be selective, you know, it's like, oh, there's so many good movies in 87. But you can only pick one. And I like that. And that was the genesis for getting the show

Sal Rodriguez:

going. Yeah. And nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Jason Connell:

Yes, it is. I chose the 80s. Why not? I had to start somewhere. So Sal, the original idea was do these scene by scene breakdowns of these movies. And it's fantastic. I mean, you have to watch the movie. I just have to guess though, watch the movie, get ready. All take us through with notes. So that I watched the movie, like methodically and make notes and we literally go scene by scene. So if the movie has a two hour runtime, our episodes gonna be north of that, because we do trivia backstory on the cast and crew. And I love it, Sal. And I know you do too, because you keep coming back.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, it is lots of fun. And you know, one thing I find interesting is, you know, being I guess I am a child. Okay, I was born in 73. So I guess I'm a child of the 80s. I identify a lot with the 90s. Because those are my formative years. I like to think when I become a man in the 90s, you know, but definitely a child of the 80s. One thing I've learned to appreciate, it's one thing to watch a movie when you're 10. Right? It's another thing to watch it when you're in your late 40s. Right? It's a whole different thing. So all these movies, I saw them when they first arrived in theaters. Yeah, but I might as well have not seen them because I was a kid. So now seeing them as an adult, I have a whole new appreciation for all these 80s movies launched by just curious media and let's talk movies. But before that launched by the nostalgia of the Karate Kid, and let's talk Cobra Kai. Yeah, so we've been living in this 80s world for a while. And as a matter of fact, I don't know if we can announce to the listeners what is in store for let's talk movies as far as Are you now going to go to the 90s? Are you gonna go back to the 70s? Where to go from here?

Jason Connell:

Great question. And just to give a synopsis for let's talk movies, as it says on the just curious Media website, a true movie lovers podcast, celebrating great films, or revisiting our scene for the first time. So that says it all right, and that's really what I wanted to do. And it doesn't have to stay in the ADCs it just so happens that credit kids spawned Cobra Kai, there was a show about that. And then I picked The 80s first, but I have many more interest. I love movies from the 50s and 60s and 70s. I love movies from the 90s 2000s. But I just chose there because it was a sweet spot. And I wanted to hit the ground running. So on earlier episodes of Let's Talk movies I do mentioned like, yeah, maybe the 70s and 90s. Next well hold that for a second because my plan is this to start doing some shorter content and having more frequency because as I mentioned earlier, Cobra Kai was on a hiatus. It's no longer season three came out, Season Four is around the corner. Let's talk Cobra Kai now has special episodes. Every week, we just released episode 80. So my own bandwidth is not what it was at the early onset of the pandemic. We're doing weekly episodes we're on live on Let's Talk Cobra Kai, we also we being just curious media also have a crime show. That's a crime. We're hitting almost episode 20. With that it has a YouTube Live Channel. It's a weekly show. So doing a deep dive to do an episode about a movie is a lot more time intensive than the other episode. So I want to keep doing this scene by scene breakdown episodes. Even on Let's Talk Cobra Kai, we did the Karate Kid, the Karate Kid, Part Two Karate Kid part three, we're going to do The Next Karate Kid. We don't do them that often, right? Because it does take so much time. So I am going to hold off on picking 70s and doing 10 movies, each movies a different year or the 90s. That'll probably happen at some point. But in the meantime, I want to start doing some interesting episodes could be an interview with someone in the industry, or from one of the movies we've covered. Or just top 10 scenes from this movie or some interesting tie ins with this movie. Or I let's talk about just Scorsese as a director in some of his movies, just having different people on yourself always included myself, I might have a solo shows here and there just because hey, I wouldn't sell this in the theater. Here are my thoughts. So I have more frequency, you've got to come back more often. And then boom, hit him with some scene by seeing breakdowns of a classic movie. So to answer your question, I don't know yet.

Sal Rodriguez:

But let me tell you this, Jason, I really have enjoyed. I'm by nature jealous. So you and I have a long history now at this point with let's talk Cobra Kai. So when I first heard let's talk movies, and you have a different special guest on my knee jerk reaction is to well, who's this guy? But you know what, I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed your special guests. I enjoyed hearing their perspectives. Yes, their experiences, how they relate to the movie. It was really fun, not just to be a special guest on Let's Talk movies, but to listen to the other episodes of Let's Talk movies. And your special guests that you have on it was really a treat. And I love listening to podcasts while I drive.

Jason Connell:

Thank you for saying that. They've all been amazing. Yes, I had. Shawn Kenny, Jake futur, Nick, Mike Estrella and Brian Beasley he's been on a couple of times. So they've all had a great, great time. And we were still learning. I was like learning remote recording. And now you and I were kind of like nother level because we have the exact same studio now. And those fans of Let's Talk movies who don't know, during the midst of this last year, I actually relocated from the West Coast to the East Coast and now have a studio set up here and the New England area sales back in Los Angeles. And so it sounds like we're still on the studio side by side. But a lot has changed. So I felt like yes, of all the shows. Let's talk movies suffered the most as far as frequency because it's tough to move and do the other shows, and then still chip away at these longer movies. So it always bothered me, but I am happy to fulfill season one. At least the first 10 movies with Roadhouse. Oh, yeah. 1989 That completes the circle. And Sal tell them when we're going to be recording that.

Sal Rodriguez:

Friday, November 19th. Yep. 730 Pacific 1030. Eastern. That is correct. Live on YouTube Live

Jason Connell:

Live. Now if you miss it live, we get it. No worries, we probably have to our I have to build consistency to win you back. So don't worry when the podcast comes out because it will be a few days to edit clean up, put out the YouTube Live, which already went live and went away will re air and stay there on the channel when the podcast comes out. And then bam, every episode after that same thing. It'll be going live that's unedited, we don't touch it. It just gets repaired when the podcast comes out. sounds confusing, but it's not.
